Please note that WASPA best practices document titled “Fraud detection and mitigation” (version 1.3 is attached to this notice) is in effect. WASPA is now actively monitoring implementation of these best practices.
According to clause 4.11 of the WASPA Code, this means that:
- All WASPA members must comply with the best practices outlined in the attached document.
- All WASPA members must take immediate steps to ensure that the applications identified in the best practice document are blocked.
This pre-emptive WASPA initiative to tackling mobile fraud is intended to protect consumers and the industry, as well as to bring WASPA members in line with contractual changes with mobile networks requiring that steps be taken to combat fraud.
As a reminder, there is a form available for members to anonymously report potentially harmful services and applications here: https://portal.waspa.org.za/reportfraud.php
