UK - Shared Short Code Requirements and Restrictions

The regulations surrounding running on our United Kingdom shared codes are the same as running on dedicated codes, e.g. see forum entry UK - Premium SMS Regulations.

Standard Rate 

One-way MTs - Using our one-way outbound bulk messaging, all UK carriers are supported. 

Two-way MOs & MTs - Using a longcode for receiving standard rate MT messages, and our bulk route for the standard rate MTs, all UK carriers are supported. 

Two-way MOs & MTs - Using an MT billed shortcode to receive standard rate MO messages, and our bulk route to send the standard rate MTs, thus the consumer is not charged, the same carriers as listed in the Premium section above are supported.

Billing Types

We operate only MT billing on our shared shortcodes in the UK. See forum entry "What are the SMS billing types available?" for more information on this billing types.

 

Service Types

With regards to the type of services that are allowed to be run on our shared codes, we have both Adult and Non-adult codes that must be used appropriately.

Gambling services are allowed on our shared codes providing it is run on an adult code and you are in line with the Gambling Commission's Reguations, see http://clients.txtnation.com/entries/241320-uk-competition-or-an-illegal-lottery.

PhonepayPlus have a variety of service specific regulations that must be adhered to, e.g. specific regulations for children's services, operator chat services, dating services, etc, etc, some of which would require you to seek specific approval if you sought to run on our shared codes. This being said the UK allows a variety of services allowing you to go live with relative ease. 

 

Tariffs

At the time of writing on our shared codes in the UK we have the following tariffs available cross carrier:

Non-adult / U-Rated = £0.25, £0.50, £1.00, £1.50, £3.00, £5.00 and £10.00. 

Adult / R-Rated = £0.25, £0.50, £1.00, £1.50, £3.00, £5.00 and £10.00. 

However as we are frequently adding new connections, your account manager can provide you an up to date list of available tariffs. 

 

Shortcode and Keyword Structure

In the UK we have several incoming codes that you can use, normally in the 60XXX series range. 

Our adult codes are in the 69XXX range. 

Speak to your account manager about the price of setting up a "session keyword" for you, so users can reply without needing a keyword.

Dedicated Codes 

Dedicated codes are available with a 2 - 5 week lead time depending on carrier availability, the carriers approve based on their backlog, the time of year, price point and service type.
