North America - Region

America is split in two by North America and South America. North America consists of mainly states, Mexico and Canada, whereas South America consists more of countries. You can find a list of Northen American countries in the list below and where they are situated in the maps which directly proceeds.

The rapid growth of wireless data in Canada in recent years is expected to be even stronger during 2010/11, due to further network upgrades to HSPA+ and then again around 2011/12 due to upgrades to 4G LTE. Significantly, the increasing availability of mobile broadband will bring a commensurate shift from traditional voice calling to mobile VoIP usage. Indeed it is anticipated that mobile VoIP calling will constitute approximately half of all mobile voice traffic within ten years.

In the USA, by 2010, mobile phone usage was increasingly more about mobile data usage than voice services. Most notably, during 2009 mobile data traffic exceeded mobile voice traffic for the first time. Moreover, mobile data traffic is expected to increase by a cumulative annual growth rate of over 100% over the next five years.

The mobile market in Mexico witnessed a slowdown in subscriber growth and usage in 2009, due in large part to the period of economic recession precipitated by the global financial crisis. Nevertheless, the strength of the mobile sector was illustrated by its double digit growth for the year against a backdrop of GDP contraction. Subscriber growth was predicted to remain in single figures during 2010/11 due to a slow economic recovery and due to penetration rates exceeding 80%.
